Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Find answers to common troubleshooting tasks and configuration setups for the Muebie ecosystem.
Why does Windows Defender flag Muebie as insecure?
Section titled “Why does Windows Defender flag Muebie as insecure?”This is a common issue for open-source applications known as “SmartScreen reputation warnings”.
Because Muebie is a community-driven, free project, we do not purchase expensive annual code-signing certificates from corporate vendors (which cost hundreds of dollars per year). Windows flags any unsigned binary as untrusted until a high volume of users have installed it.
You can safely proceed by clicking “More Info” and then “Run Anyway”.

- Click “Enable Broadcast Discovery”. A unique pairing PIN and QR code will display.
- Launch Muebie on your Android device, go to Settings -> Device Syncing -> Pair New Device.

Where does Muebie store my database?
Section titled “Where does Muebie store my database?”Muebie saves all local index metadata, play counts, and playlists in an SQLite file. It is located at:
- Windows:
%APPDATA%/Muebie/muebie.db - macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/Muebie/muebie.db - Linux:
~/.config/Muebie/muebie.db - Android: Internal private sandboxed application storage folder.
You can safely copy or back up this database file to migrate your complete listening history to another machine.
My local music files aren’t showing up in my library.
Section titled “My local music files aren’t showing up in my library.”If files are not appearing after scanning, double check these requirements:
- Format Support: Ensure your music is encoded in a supported format (MP3, FLAC, WAV, AAC, M4A, OGG).
- Permissions: Check that the Muebie application has permission to read the directories where your files are stored.
- File Naming and Tags: Muebie scans standard ID3 tags (v1 and v2) or Vorbis comments. If tags are corrupted or missing, Muebie indexes files under an “Unknown” category. Use tools like Mp3tag or MusicBrainz Picard to verify tag formatting.
